MCFS employs acoustic sensor technology to detect the origins of hostile fire and slews a remote controlled gun mount to supply counter fire

MCFS: Technology to Locate and Kill Snipers

It is a widely held view by those in the military that urban environments are likely battlefields for conflicts in the 21 st century. In such environments, snipers pose a significant threat to both men and material during the conduction of urban warfare.

Based on this, the U.S. Marines identified the need for a counter-sniper capability and teamed with TSi to develop a system to meet this requirement.

The result of this collaboration is the TSi Mobile Counter Fire System (MCFS), a mobile, vehicle-based system that enables rapid detection and defeat of sniper fire threats. MCFS employs the latest in acoustic sensor technology to detect the origins of hostile fire and automatically slews a remote controlled gun mount to supply counter fire to defeat the threat.

The gun mount can accommodate standard types of user-supplied weapons including the M2 .50 cal and M60 7.62 mm machineguns, and the MK-19 automatic grenade launcher.

MCFS has been successfully tested by the U.S. Marines in Urban Warfare Exercises.
