TSi Inflatable Active Wing System The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has awarded TSi a Phase I SBIR contract to develop a revolutionary flight control system for Army munitions. This project, performed in collaboration with ILC Dover, Inc., world leader in spacesuit and inflatable systems technologies, focuses on exploiting advanced, compact actuators and inflatable flight control systems to improve the performance and lethality of munitions. The TSi Inflatable Active Wing System (IWAS) is a self-contained, retro-fit capable module. After deployment of the munition, the IWAS system is activated to enhance the aerodynamics and controllability of the munition. TSi Project Leader, Dr. Peter Chen, expects that the integrated hardware/software IWAS technology to be prototyped and wind tunnel tested in collaboration with sponsors at the US Army Picatinny Arsenal, will enable the Army to actively steer munitions and enable agile maneuvering. |
