Active Blade Pitch (APL) System TSi was recently awarded a Phase I SBIR contract by the US Army Aviation Applied Technology Directorate, Fort Eustis, Virginia, to investigate the use of single crystal electrostrictive materials for active rotor control. Project leader, Dr. Peter Chen and collaborators from the Alfred Gessow Rotorcraft Center at the University of Maryland and Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation will produce a primary rotor control system based on an active blade pitch (APL) system. The APL will be activated using the electrostrictive materials and provide control authority of the main rotor for primary flight control as well to reduce rotor vibration and blade-vortex interaction noise. |
