Network Optimization and Design Software

Optimal Routing and Link Sizing Software

In a project for Teleglobe Communications Corporation (TCC), a company created by Teleglobe Canada, TSi developed a network design and planning tool for TCC called The Teleglobe Network Design System (TNDS). TNDS is used by network planners and design engineers, as well as by management to make decisions on technologies, network capacity, and equipment acquisition and deployment on TCC's international backbone network. TNDS performs complete end-to-end optimization of a circuit-switched network.

TNDS was developed using C++ and object-oriented design. The network design methods are based on novel iterative optimization algorithms. The algorithms handle many advanced network problems including link and carrier constraints, optimization over multiple time periods, graduated link costs, and end-to-end blocking suppression.  TNDS includes functions for optimal link sizing, taking into account costs and grade of service constraints, functions
for call homing and termination, and functions for least cost routing in a global network.   The algorithms were also optimized for speed allowing many design scenarios to be examined in a short amount of time.
