Optical Fiber Round Exit Velocity (OFREV) System

Using a system of fiber-optic sensors, Techno-Sciences has developed an innovative way to measure the round exit velocity of a projectile leaving a gun barrel. Our system is both rugged and small and provides more accuracy then systems currently employed to measure the exit velocity of a round.

Our technology can be used to more accurately set fuses for air burst munitions and monitor gun barrel health.

OFREV is still in development and therefore the specifications have not been finalized. Field testing on a 25 mm M242 cannon has produced repeated accuracies of better than 0.5% for velocities of up to 1550 m/s.
