The TSi MCC has set the international standard for Nodal MCCs. In additional to its function as a national MCC, a Nodal MCC is responsible for providing the link between the international community and other MCCs and OCCs in its region of responsibility. For example, all alert messages between the international community and the Canadian MCC, a MCC in the USMCC's region of responsibility, must first be sent to the USMCC. Thus, a Nodal MCC serves as the international hub for its region of responsibility. A Nodal MCC contributes to the overall stability of the COSPAS-SARSAT system. A Nodal MCC is more powerful than conventional MCCs and OCCs. The TSi PrecisionSAR RCC Workstation provides effective management and coordination of a SAR effort by linking information from the COSPAS-SARSAT system with a map complete with a graphical information system (GIS). The GIS map is based on the Digital Chart of the World for presentation of geographical information. The map data is tuned to provide the greatest amount of information for the national area of responsibility. This includes roads, rivers, lakes, population centers, airports, geographic elevations, and ocean features. |
