TSi
PrecisionSAR RCC Workstation
There is a vast array of information
available to today's search and rescue (SAR) personnel. From data relayed
by COSPAS-SARSAT Mission Control Centers (MCCs) to information relayed
from SAR crews on land and in the air, the efficient management of this
information is crucial to saving lives. The faster that SAR resources
are mobilized and the more efficient the response, the greater the potential
for saving lives. The TSi PrecisionSAR RCC Workstation provides automated
coordination of SAR information and resources and permits the SAR team
to focus on the mission, not on logistics.
The TSi RCC Operations
Workstation provides effective management and coordination of a SAR effort
by linking information from the COSPAS-SARSAT system with a map complete
with a graphical information system (GIS). The GIS map is based on the
Digital Chart of the World for presentation of geographical information.
The map data is tuned to provide the greatest amount of information for
the national area of responsibility. This includes roads, rivers, lakes,
population centers, airports, geographic elevations, and ocean features.
The International
COSPAS-SARSAT system provides distress alert and location data for SAR
operations. Emergency transmitters (distress beacons) are detected by
both polar orbiting and geosynchronous satellites. The signals detected
by these spacecraft are relayed to ground facilities, processed and ultimately
distributed to Rescue Coordination Centers. Rescue Coordination Centers
are responsible for performing actual search and rescue missions that
save lives. The importance of this role in the COSPAS-SARSAT Ground Segment
cannot be overstated. These SAR personnel require complete, yet concise,
information that can be accessed quickly with simple procedures. Missions
often involve the risking of the lives by trained rescue personnel and
the use of costly resources. Accurate, reliable and timely data is critical
to both these professionals and the individuals whose lives they save.
The TSi PrecisionSAR
RCC uses state-of-the-art computer technology to provide indispensable
support to this vital operation. The user interface is clear and simple
with careful attention to tasks necessary for rescue operations. All data
reception and processing is completely automatic.
TSi's RCC maintains
an extensive database containing all alert information it has received
with incoming messages optionally printed as they are received. New alert
information raises alarms and the map display "flashes" recently updated
locations. The operator may easily access the most recent information
or review all information regarding a specific incident. The Techno-Sciences
RCC Operations Workstation automates the tedious and critical tasks of
message tracking and archiving. Supporting utilities are provided for
various levels of data interrogation and computations as desired by the
operator.
The Techno-Sciences
PrecisionSAR RCC Workstation is a valued addition to any country's SAR
operations because it provides up-to-date essential information on SAR
resources and key geographic factors. It allows the rescue personnel to
focus on the situation rather than logistics, accelerates response times
and contributes to a higher survival rate.
