TSi Delivered Second Generation Reference Beacon to the United States NOAA to Augment Its MEOSAR System in Florida

Lanham, Maryland, USA – October 29, 2021 – TSi, the global leader in Search and Rescue (SAR) satellite ground stations and software solutions, has delivered to the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (US NOAA) a very high accuracy, second generation reference beacon system for its SARSAT system in Miami, Florida.

“TSi’s Reference Beacon is an advanced, sophisticated, and versatile piece of equipment. This reference beacon can generate a variety of first- and second-generation beacon bursts with varying and configurable parameters. It can be programed to generate and run scenarios for multiple beacons with several beacon IDs and characteristics. It can be used for many purposes such as System Performance Evaluation, System Level Testing, Quality Management System (QMS), Satellite Commissioning, Ground Segment Commissioning, satellite checkouts, and more. As such, it is a powerful and useful asset to add to any Cospas-Sarsat system, especially any MEOSAR ground station”, said TSi’s CTO, Jeff Khorrami.

US NOAA, the government agency responsible for the US SARSAT program, installed the world’s first operational MEOSAR system in Hawaii in 2011 and an additional MEOSAR installation in Florida in 2014. Both systems were designed, developed, and installed by TSi. MEOSAR is the next-generation version of the Cospas-Sarsat international search and rescue satellite system that has helped to save over 50,000 lives since 1982.

“TSi has continuously been at the forefront of the technology developed and utilized by the US SARSAT program. This latest development of a calibrated, remotely programmable reference/calibration beacon and its successful roll-out operationally at the US Communication Station Miami continues that trend of excellence!”, said Mickey Fitzmaurice, US NOAA SARSAT Program’s Lead Satellite Systems Engineer.
